Hay Fever Symptoms In Babies

Different types of allergies exist which creates problems for humans. Children are not the exception and they are affected by various types of allergies. One of them is Hay fever. Hay fever happens due to allergic reactions from substances and it is also called allergic rhinitis. It is caused by pollen so it is not like a cold which is caused by fever. Cause of Hay Fever

Hay fever happens when your immune system reacts mistakenly to a harmless airborne substance. As a result, the body generates an antibody immunoglobulin E to deter the threat. Chemical histamine gets released which are the symptoms of hay fever.

Hay Fever Triggers

So far major triggers of hay fever are grass pollen, tree pollen, fungi spores, and weed pollen. It is unusual for babies under two years of age to be affected with hay fever because they are less exposed to the triggers mentioned above. However, grass pollen is quite common to trigger for hay fever in babies and affect in May to August.

You may not differentiate between cold and hay fever but hay fever last longer and it will get worse if your child remains outside most of the time. So, this is quite a helpful point in diagnosing hay fever. Hay fever runs in family just like eczema and asthma.

How to Treat Hay Fever in Children

You can wash your babies from cool water helps a lot and removes pollen from the skin. Try to cover your baby's face as you can so that he or she could not get inhale pollen or spores.  You can apply balm or other liquid solutions around your nose as well to block pollen coming into the nose. Vaseline has been found to be very effective in combating pollen coming via nose. Avoid going outside with your children in a warm and sunny day, because of pollen count peaks in the morning. Change your baby’s cloth when you come inside your home so that any pollen in his or her cloth could not affect him or her. If you are in the car with your baby, keep windows shut down so that no pollen could come into your car. You can also use the pollen filter to reduce the risk of pollen coming into your car or in your homes.
